The World Bank Office in Minsk has denied recent media information that lending a loan to Belarus is associated with the outcome of the presidential election. "Possible loan will be developed as a cooperation program for several years, and for this matter the World Bank should work with a long-or medium-term socio-economic program of the government", the World Bank reported.

Permanent Representative of the World Bank in Belarus Ivan Velev remarked that negotiations on the development loans lending to Belarus will start by the end of 2010. «Negotiations are now at the very initial stage, we have not yet discussed the content, terms, size,» the representative of the WB said.

Ivan Velev reported that the adoption of the liberalization directive and compliance of the election campaign in Belarus with the democratic principles of the West does not mean the automatic lending another portion of money to the country, AFN.

«The program of loaning for development purposes will be comprehensive for us. It won’t be one-time as well. We want to have a program of cooperation for the next few years, and this requires a long-or medium-term program of the government», Ivan Velev commented.

«All these elements are interconnected. Based on these documents, we’ll provide the development loans,» the WB representative summed up.

The World Bank granted its first development loan for Belarus at the end of 2009 in the amount of $ 200 million.
