Lithuanian President Grybauskaite evaluated proposals of the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko to build a new nuclear plant in Belarus skeptically. "The position of the Lithuanian president is that a major nuclear power plant has no prospects," press-secretary of Dali Grybauskaite, Lynas Balsys said.

According to the spokesman, only Alexander Lukashenko was speaking about the construction of nuclear power plants at a meeting of two presidents in Minsk, BNS reports.

«The Lithuanian President is of the opinion that this region, due to the growing demand for electricity, could be in advantage if several smaller plants, but not a unified regional nuclear power, operate there,» the spokesman explained.

We are Not Ready to Discuss Proposals for Nuclear Power Plants Construction, Kubilius

Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius also commented on the proposal of Alexander Lukashenko on the joint construction of nuclear power plants.

«As I see it, Lithuania was suggested to participate in the construction of nuclear power plant in Belarus. However, such proposals have been arriving up to the moment, and, as I understand, the offer was simply repeated yesterday. We have reiterated that we are not prepared to discuss such proposals,» Andrius Kubilius said, DELFI.

According to Telegraf, Alexander Lukashenko said at the meeting with the Dalia Grybauskaite on October 20 that Lithuania and Belarus would work together to build a nuclear power plant. «Let’s fix the price of this power plant and build it together, if that is the will of the Lithuanian state. We’ll be very interested in this project,» the Belarusian leader said.
