Lomat to Head State Control Committee until End of Election

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko decided not to change the chairman of the State Control Committee.  The committee will be headed by Zenon Lomat at least until the end of the current presidential election. Experts believe that the president did not change the people in key government positions before the election so as not to provoke the staff tension.

However, some experts predicted earlier that former Attorney General and former Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Viktor Sheiman would head the SCC, reports «Ejednevnik». Personnel changes may be caused by large-scale anti-corruption operation, organized by the State Security Agency against major SCC officials.
As Telegraf informed, in mid-August this year Officers of the State Security Agency arrested the head of crime investigations department of financial investigations office of the State Control Committee, Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Adamovich.  He was was officially charged under article 430 part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (acceptance of a bribe by a person, holding responsible post). Investigation of the criminal case initiated against the chief financial investigator continues. Dmitry Adamovich himself is still in custody. The term of his arrest expires on October 6.
Moreover, during its inspection, Belarus’ Security Council revealed a number of violations in the work of Department of Financial Investigations of the Committee of State Control. It was found out, that some high-ranking officials had helped businessmen to evade criminal prosecution. The guilty officials were recommended for dismissal.
