On October 5 Leader of the United Civil Party, Anatoly Lebedko sent a letter to Attorney General of Belarus Grigory Vasilevich demanding a criminal investigation into the rigging of the presidential campaign of 2006. Politician believes that the justification for this fact can be a direct statement of the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and the Head of Brest Voblast Executive Committee Konstantin Sumar of the vote rigging.

«Both statements prove that the final election results have been changed, which is a criminal offence,» it is written in the letter to Anatoly Lebedko.

UCP leader believes that the statements of Alexander Lukashenko and Konstantin Sumar are «political provocation aimed at the reaction measurement of the public opinion,» UCP website.

«On the other hand, we’re given to understand that the presidential campaign outcome will be decided not by voters, but by the clan in power. Personally, I view this as a kick in the teeth,» Anatoly Lebedko commented.

During the election campaign in 2006, after the Brest region was marked by extremely high support for Alexander Lukashenko, the head of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, Konstantin Sumar said that the local authorities had reduced by 16 thousand the number of those who’d voted for the incumbent president. Thus, the head executive committee acknowledged that the results of the presidential elections in the region had been rigged.

The head of state also spoke about electoral fraud in October 2006. «We rigged last election… 93.5% voted for President Lukashenko. It is not a European record as they say. We’ve made 86. It was true,» Alexander Lukashenko previously declared.
