Lukashenko Calls Not to "Worry" About His Meeting with Yanukovych

Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting with arrived with official visit to Belarus the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, urged not to look for subtext in the meeting of two presidents. "Somebody is worried about our relations. We're not going to be friends against someone and do not intend to engage in geopolitical problems. It is not in our interest and neither in the interest of Ukraine, I think," the President said.

Belarusian leader noted that the two countries have a task is to build up their economies so that they do not differ from European countries, to make people live better. «I am convinced that you have the same matter», Alexander Lukashenko said, referring to the Ukrainian president.

Alexander Lukashenko believes that the presidents will have time to meet more than once. «I think, in the near future we’ll consider the possibility of organizing such a meeting, which will show our true intentions with respect to each other», Belarusian leader said.

Viktor Yanukovych underlined with satisfaction the ratification by Belarusian parliament of agreement on the demarcation of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. According to Ukrainian president, it discovers new opportunities for the development of trade and economic relations and new investment.

Ukraine called upon Belarus to join efforts in solving the Chernobyl problem

Viktor Yanukovych stressed that he initiated to hold an international conference on Chernobyl issues with the participation of donor countries in 2011 in Kiev. «We have agreed with you that we — as countries most affected by the Chernobyl disaster — should work together to defend our positions on this issue. As Chernobyl is a problem not only for Belarus and Ukraine, but for the whole Europe», said the president of Ukraine, referring to Alexander Lukashenko.

Ukrainian President reminded that next year it will be marked 25th anniversary of «this common for the people of Ukraine and Belarus tragedy». «A few days ago I visited Chernobyl», Ukrainian leader said. «It’s not all as good as it seemed to be».
