President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, speaking at a meeting of the seventh special session of parliament on January 27, demanded from the new government to restructure the economy. According to the President, Belarus needs upgrading the operating enterprises to improve their competitiveness and create entirely new export-oriented production.

President demanded to take radical steps with regard to the chronically loss-making enterprises, up to their liquidation. According to the head of state, it’s necessary to provide financial state support only to efficient or particularly meaningful social projects, BelTA informs.

«There’s only one claim here: people, employees of the liquidated companies should not be offended. The government needs to work closely with local authorities on the issue of these workers’ employment,» said Alexander Lukashenko.

The President also noted that the development of Belarus should increase significantly the role of science. «We have serious and responsible work to do. We are short of time. It’s necessary to make important decisions for the country, including personnel issues,» said the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko set the task for 2016 to make Belarus closer to the European GDP per capita and their living standard. According to the president, to achieve these objectives it is first necessary to give a new quality to the work of the government as a business headquarters.

Council of Ministers Should not Continually Speed Ministers on, Lukashenko

«It is very important to make the Council of Ministers a truly collegial management body. No need to «hang» over the ministers and speed them on constantly. At this stage, ministers, business leaders, governors, chairmen of district executive committees should bear full responsibility for the state of the economy and social services,» said Alexander Lukashenko.

Introducing to the parliament Mikhail Miasnikovich, appointed a new Prime Minister, Alexander Lukashenko noted that his task is primarily to control implementation of the strategic objectives, defined in the program of socio-economic development of Belarus for five years, but not to control the ministers.

Nobody Canceled Executive Discipline, Lukashenko

«Mikhail Vladimirovich should organize proper work of the Council of Ministers, making debates and discussion possible only before the decision-making. Next — unconditional implementation, without hassle and ranting. Nobody canceled executive discipline,» said the President.

Meanwhile, Alexander Lukashenko noted the great experience of economic, scientific and leadership activity of the new head of the Council of Ministers. According to the president, Mikhail Miasnikovich deep experience will be extremely useful for Belarus, which is «switching to the innovative way of development.»

«He knows what nano-, bio-, laser, pharmacy, aerospace and other advanced technologies are. He can determine which of these areas are better for us to develop. This is important as the role of academic, industry and university research in the country’s development is currently increasing,» said the President.

The President also noted that there’s a good foundation for economic development in Belarus. «High dynamic of the country’s development, as well as modern approaches to economic management are needed to achieve all the goals of a new five-year plan. For this purpose the government needs strong, experienced, pragmatic people, who are well aware of the problems and able to find real-life solutions. The current Council of Ministers has been formed up to this pattern,» Alexander Lukashenko said.
