Lukashenko Declined Invitation to Lithuania Independence Day

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko responded to the invitation from  Dali Grybauskaite to take part in celebrations of the 20 th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuanian independence, which will be held on March 11. Head of State said that the delegation of Belarus will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Victor Buria, the press service of Belarusian leader informed.

Despite the refusal to pay a visit to Lithuania on 11 March, the president of Belarus «sincerely thanked the Lithuanian counterpart for the invitation and, in turn, invited Dalia Grybauskaite to visit Minsk, the press service of Alexander Lukashenko reported.

In addition, the President noted «a high potential for further development of political, economic and cultural ties on behalf of Belarusian and Lithuanian people» and stressed «the importance of strengthening dialogue at the highest government level.»

As Telegraf previously reported, Presidents of Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland and Slovenia gave confirmation of  their participation in the celebration of remarkable date. Acting President of Moldova Parliament Speaker Mihai Ghimpu also said about his participation, informs BelTA.

Georgia will be represented at the celebrations by the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament David Bakradze, Sweden by Speaker of the Riksdag Per Westerberg.

Lithuania will celebrate the 20t anniversary of adoption of  «The Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithania» on March 11, 2010. On July 13, 2010 Lithuania will celebrate the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Durba, and July 15 — 600 th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald.
