Lukashenko Hopes For Gorbachev's Help in Relations with Russia

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated the former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev on his 80th anniversary, celebrated by the politician on March 2. Belarusian leader noted the "high prestige" of the current president of the International Public Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies in his congratulatory speech. 

«I am confident that your high authority, rich life experience, principled civil stand will continue to promote peace and understanding between peoples, as well as extension of comprehensive Belarusian-Russian relations,» Alexander Lukashenko said in a congratulatory message, sited by the press service of the Belarusian head of state.

As Telegraf previously reported, Mikhail Gorbachev gave a series of media interviews on the eve of his 80th anniversary, criticizing actions of the current leadership of Russia and regretting over the failure to preserve the integrity of the Soviet Union.
