Lukashenko Not to Go to Kaczynski Funeral

President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, will not go to Poland to attend the funeral of the President, Lech Kaczynski, on Sunday, April 18. The official delegation of Minsk will be represented by the chairman of the Council of Republic of the National Assembly, Barys Batura.

Also, the highest Belarusian authorities hasn’t yet made a decision whether to declare in Belarus the mourning for Polish delegation — going to Katyn and headed by Poland’s President along with his wife — died in air crash near Smolensk, Nasha Niva informs.

The funeral of Lech and Maria Kaczyński will be held at Catholic Cathedral at Wawel Castle in Krakow. The desire to attend the ceremony has been already expressed by the U.S. president, Barack Obama, Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, German chancellor, Angela Merkel, Lithuanian president, Dalia Grybauskaite, and several other heads of states and governments.
