President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, at a parade in Minsk on Victory Day stated that "today's complex situation makes high demands to strengthen the defense of our country". "To achieve this, we will take all necessary measures. The main focus is to ensure the necessary level of Armed Forces development", said the President.

«Remembering the lessons of the war, we realize that there is nothing more important for us than ensuring peace, prosperity and independence of the state. It is the objective of our policy. Precious legacy — the freedom and independence — must not only be revered but also defended from political and economic threats using all means», Belarusian leader stressed.

The president also expressed his «deepest gratitude» to veterans, because they «gave us our life». «You can be sure that in Belarus the immortal feat of the Soviet people will be revered forever», the president assured.

«The people’s memory will remain forever the selflessness and courage of those who underwent many severe trials and won the cruelest war of the past century. The value of this Victory is timeless for humanity. It has become a symbol of the triumph of life over death, freedom over slavery, humanism over racism, embodied a fair retribution on aggression and violence, imposed severe assessment of mad ambitions and ideas of world domination», press office of the president quotes his words.

Attempts to revise history have become a political trend, Lukashenko

However, according to Belarusian leader, most recently in the world there are frequent attempts to revise history and distort the truth about the Second World War, which is the fact that «a crucial part in the antifascist fight belongs to the Soviet Union».

«Unfortunately, more often there are people who tend to substitute the truth — paid by millions of lives — by the surrogates, detracting from the Great Exploit of our soldiers and guerrillas, vilify patriots who fought for the liberation of their country», said the president of Belarus.

«It’s even worse, that such attempts were to grow into a political trend. Today we must do everything possible to stop the revision of history», Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

«Then, in 1941, there happened not only a clash of states and huge military potentials. It was a comprehensive battle of different political systems, opposite moral and spiritual values. And we won it. All the people were ready to protect the Motherland. That is why this went down in history as the Great Patriotic War forever», said the head of state.

«And today, in a parade formation in Minsk, Moscow and Kiev, the militaries from fraternal Slavic countries are standing shoulder to shoulder. The memory of the heroic deed is sacred. However, to avoid the tragic mistakes, we must do the right conclusions from the past experience. We call upon all countries not to ignore the new challenges and dangerous trends which threaten our security», Belarusian leader said.
