Belarus and the Vatican continue to work on a bilateral agreement. This was stated by the Vatican's Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone at the meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Astana on November 2. "But nevertheless, there may be problems, claims towards us regarding  the above topics? We are ready to urgently consider them," the president said.

At the same time, according to Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus and the Catholic Church «experience no evident fundamental differences, difficulties, challenges», while the identified problems are being successfully resolved, BelTA informs.

«We are thoroughly watching the way the Belarusian government deals with the Catholic religion issues. An agreement, being currently worked out, could be considered the key point for the trust relations, developed between our two countries,» Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone said.

Alexander Lukashenko also gave the Bible, published in Belarus, to the Vatican’s Secretary of state. «We know that the Cardinal Bertone has a double celebration today: the birthday and the 50th  anniversary of ordination to the rank. Therefore, we have brought you the Bible on this occasion,» the president said.
