Belarus needs additional reserves, enabling to improve the economic condition of agricultural country. This was stated by Alexander Lukashenko on March 22 during a government report on the outcome of rural development in 2005-2010 and the tasks of the state program for rural development for 2011-2015.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, strategically important issues of agro-industrial development of the country should be considered. In particular, the Government submitted a new state program for rural development for 2011-2015 for approval, BelTA informs.

«This is the fourth agricultural program, said the president of Belarus. — It has been preceded by the other three, the implementation made it possible not only to overcome the serious decline in the industry in post-perestroika years, but also to contribute to its dynamic growth. In this way we’ve ensured food security of Belarus, thus creating solid foundation for socio-political stability of our society.»

Agricultural Products — Strategic Resource in World Market, Lukashenko

According to the head of state, today’s world situation with food shows that the significance of the successful agricultural development is increasing steadily. «Agricultural production is increasingly becoming a strategic resource in the world market. And in contrast to the natural resources, we can seriously increase this resource, deriving enormous benefit to the country and people, increasing food exports,» says the head of state.

As the president says, despite the fact that foreign supplies of our agricultural sector brought only $3.3 billion last year, we should obtain more than $7 billion by 2015.» «Increasing global demand for food and our opportunities for more efficient agricultural development will contribute to achieving this goal. In this case, food prices in the world tend to increase,» said Alexander Lukashenko.

The President noted that this task should be fully solved by the new agricultural program.

«While discussing the new program I would like to hear the participants’ assessment of whether it is aimed at the intensification of agriculture, ensuring the competitiveness of domestic production, cost reduction and productivity increase,» the head of state.

Alexander Lukashenko also took interest in the regional specialization of production, as well as in the fact weather the population’s demand for food, including buckwheat, vegetables, fruits and other foodstuffes, had been met or not. In addition, the President drew attention of participants to the question of how stable the financial support for the new program would be.

No Reports, No Politics, No Personal Interests, Lukashenko

The most important question is the formation of cadre body, capable of solving the agrarian problems to-date, interested in improving economic performance of industrial activity,» said President of Belarus.

Alexander Lukashenko has also noted that it is important to identify prospects for the development of village social sphere, further plans on arrangement of agricultural towns and villages. «No reports, no politics, no personal interests — only estimates: what is done and what is not, as well as the way to act in this direction,» the president said, addressing the participants of the meeting.

Government Program for 2011-2015 has been developed in order to create conditions for the priority social and economic development of rural areas, improving the efficiency of agriculture. It is comprehensive and includes 18 programs at different levels. By this program, in 2015, income from sale of agricultural goods, works and services should rise in more than nine times against the level of 2010 and should amount to over Br3.5 trillion. Projected return on sales — 10-11%. In general, the rate of growth of production in all categories of farms will amount to 139-145% in 2011-2015.
