Lukashenko Significantly Reshuffles Belarusian Government

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko reshuffled the Belarusian government on December 28 and appointed chairman of the National Academy of Sciences Mikhail Miasnikovich the new Prime Minister. Vladimir Semashko was appointed First Deputy Prime Minister. He's been occupying this position in the government of Belarus under the leadership of Sergei Sidorski.

Thus, Mikhail Miasnikovich took over Sergei Sidorsky as Prime Minister of Belarus. The latter has headed the Council of Ministers since 2003.

Miasnikovich M.V. — Brief Biography

Mikhail Vladimirovich Miasnikovich was born in 1950 in the village of Novy Snou, Niasvizh district, Minsk voblast. In 1972 he graduated from Brest Civil Engineering Institute and in 1989 — Minsk HPS. Doctor of Economic Sciences, professor, member of the National Academy of Sciences.

1983-1985 — he occupied the position of Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Soviet District Council of People’s Deputies, Vice-chairman of Minsk City Council.

1985-1986 — he’s the secretary of Minsk city committee of the PBC. 1986-1990 — Minister of the BSSR Housing. 1990-1991 — Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR, the chairman of the State Committee of the BSSR for Economy and Planning. 1991-1994 — first deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of Belarus and 1994-1995 — Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus.

1995-2001 — Head of the Presidential Administration, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Belarus for special assignments.

Since October 2001 — chairman of the National Academy of Sciences.

Other positions in the new government of Belarus:

President of Belarus appointed Kalinin Anatoli Nikolaevich, Rumas Sergei Nikolaevich, Valeri Ivanov, Anatoli Tozik Afanasevich Deputy Prime Minister. They replaced Bambiza Ivan Mikhailovich, Buria Viktor Pavlovich, Kobiakov Andrei Vladimirovich and Potupchik Vladimir Nikolayevich, respectively.

Anatoli Kalinin used to be assistant to the president, chief inspector of the city of Minsk (appointed on June 4, 2009).

Sergei Rumas was «Belagroprombank» chairman from September 22, 2005 with the consent of the head of state.

Valeri Ivanov was first deputy chairman of Minsk Voblast Executive Committee (since May 25, 2010).

Anatoli Tozik worked as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China from April 13, 2006.

Belarus Vladimir Semashko will still be in charge of fuel and energy complex in the new government, Anatoli Kalinin will be responsible for building complex, Sergei Rumas — for economy and finance, Valeri Ivanov — for agriculture, Anatoli Tozik — for socio-cultural complex.

In addition, Andrei Kobiakov, a former deputy chairman of the government, was appointed the Deputy Chief of Staff . He took over Leonid Anfimov, who became the first deputy chairman of the State Control Committee.

Alexander Lukashenko appointed Alexander Jacobson Chairman of the State Control Committee of Belarus, who was earlier the chairman of Homel voblast executive committee.

The leader of the association of public association «Belarusian Confederation of creative unions» Gennadi Davydko became Chairman of the National State Television and Radio Company. He was taken over by Alexander Zimouski.

As Telegraf previously reported, the Belarusian government resigned after the presidential elections of 2006 in accordance with the Constitution of the country right on the day of presidential inauguration. The government wasn’t changed significantly then. The President introduced to parliament the candidacy of Sergei Sidorski, who had been heading the Council of Ministers for three years. 103 parliamentarians supported the nomination, and two opposed. In addition, deputy prime minister and most ministers retained their posts.
