President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has said in an address to the nation and the parliament that "nuclear power plant — is vital and will be built in Belarus." According to him, 95% dependence on the imported gas "makes our growing economy very sensitive."

«The NPP energy is 50% cheaper than the gas at the heat station. Reduction of gas imports by a quarter, reduction of gas emissions by 10 million tons — that is how the Belarusian leader has described the benefits of NPP construction.

«The NPP meets the highest standards of security not only today. All the insinuations against nuclear power plant are 95% created by people, bought by our neighbors. Why are Lithuanians and Poles so worried? Competition. This is the only cause. There won’t be NPP in our garden, but there will be dozens off the fence. Our security won’t be strengthened by this,» said Alexander Lukashenko.

«NPP will move us to a new stage of development. We will build a nuclear plant whatever the cost. I’ll take it under my responsibility … Price was an important factor for the choice. Our nuclear power plant is the cheapest in the world,» said President of Belarus.
