The experts of the Independent Institute of Socio-Economic and Political Studies (IISEPS), registered in Vilnius, forecast decline in the rating of President Alexander Lukashenko. According to experts, the high rate of inflation at the beginning of the year will be a determining factor, affecting the mood of the Belarusians. Experts consider it unlikely for the head of state to go up in the ranking.

«In February, National Statistical Committee will present the initial data for January. It is too early to judge about the success of anti-deficit fight in February. The inflation rate will be most decisive factor. Price doubling for sunflower seed oil and buckwheat caused five or six points down in Alexander Lukashenko’s rating,» the independent experts note in the regular issue of the newsletter «Infofokus.»

IISEPS analysts compare presidential elections, held in Belarus in December 2010, with the first presidential elections. In their view, the first and fourth elections significantly adjusted the rate of the country’s development, without changing its basic element — «power, standing outside the laws and the people,» reports «Narodnaia Volia

«The events of December 19 showed that the simulation resource of archaically organized power had been exhausted. It has no resources either to improve the efficiency of the economy, or to maintain its legitimacy at the expense of buying votes. It can be argued with a high degree of probability that we will witness remake of 2001-2002, when the rating of Aleksandar Lukashenko collapsed after the «elegant victory.» But the possibility of a repeat of 2003-2006, when rating of the country’s leader began to grow again, is not visible today,» say experts.

Meanwhile, as Telegraf previously reported, IISEPS opinion poll confirmed the strong support of the incumbent president in the last presidential election. According to the opinion polls, 51.1% of Belarusians voted for Lukashenko: Minsk — 39.9%, rural areas — 62.3%.
