Head of Information and spokesman of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh said the news agency Associated Press "is a hired agitator, and a sponsored instrument of propaganda." "It appears that this estimate can be attributed to other Western media," he said.

Statement by Andrei Savinykh regards to publications, stating about the presence of the Belarusian citizens in the armed forces of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, said the agency.

«We’ve received a full response from the head of the UN mercenaries Jose del Prado on what he specifically told The Associated Press. The UN official is known to have reported an American journalist on having no information and, thus, being unable to confirm the presence of any mercenaries from Belarus in Libya. The announcement was made clearly and unambiguously. Similar confirmation has been received from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights,» said Andrei Savinykh.

«Thus, another attempt to falsify the reality by the western media organizations has been unmasked. As can be seen, Western journalists can easily step over the generally accepted democratic standards, when it is convenient or in the interests of their sponsors,» he added.

UN officials in Belarus have failed to give any comments to Telegraf on this situation.

As Telegraf previously reported, April 8, Associated Press referring to the head of the UN Working Group on the use of mercenaries, Jose Luis Gomez del Prado, reported that Muammar Gaddafi is using mercenaries. Most of them are Africans, however, there may also be the Belarusians. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has immediately denied this information. The Associated Press hasn’t refuted it so far.
