McDonald's and Euroset Lifted Claims to Opposition, "Case on December 19"

McDonald's fast-food chain and a network of cellular salons denied statements by the prosecution at the trials on the "case on December 19" that protesters had caused them economic harm during the opposition rally on the day of presidential elections in 2010.

According to Georgina Middleton, a spokesman for McDonald’s Europe (London), quite a huge crowd of people was really observed beside the restaurant on Independence Avenue on election day, on December 19, 2010.

«Protection and management of the restaurant were concerned about the safety of both our customers and staff. And it was decided to close the facility ahead of time. We have provided relevant information in response to a formal request of the authorities,» she said.

«In connection with all of the above mentioned, we have no claims for damages to anyone. However, the possible amount of our losses is a trade secret,» said Georgina Middleton.

Uliana Smolskaya, a spokesman for the group of companies «Euroset» (Moscow), in turn, reported that the work of the shopping center was discussed in the court, which in connection with the demonstration was temporarily closed and where the company’s office is located, reports «Novaya Haseta.»

«Euroset» representative was summoned to a court hearing as a witness, where he confirmed that the company had neither claims to someone nor damages,» she said.

The prosecution is known to accuse the defendants in the case on December 19 of causing property damage to McDonald’s restaurant in the form of lost profits of Br 8.4 million, as well as of «the forced closure of «Euroset» salon an hour earlier than usual time due to the criminal actions of the candidates.»
