Russian President Dmitry Medvedev expressed confidence that at the presidential elections in Belarus on December 19, the Belarusian people would make the right choice, and "that would be implemented within the legislative field in compliance with all the rights and the fundamental interests of the citizens of Belarus". The Russian leader said about it on September 28 during his visit to Shanghai.

«We do care about the fate of the Belarusian people», Dmitry Medvedev said, and jokingly added that he didn’t expect anything good from the elections in Belarus, «Interfax» reports.
Dmitry Medvedev said that presidential elections are an internal affair of Belarus.
As Telegraf informed, on September 27 the Central Election Commission of Belarus registered 17 action groups for collecting signatures in support of potential candidates for the presidency of the country, including the current head of state Alexander Lukashenko.
In the coming days, team members will receive appropriate certificates and subscription lists. On September 30 they will be able to start collecting signatures in support of candidates for the presidency. The petitions should be submitted to the regional commission not later than 29 October.
In accordance with the electoral law a presidential candidate in Belarus is a person, in support of which at least 100 thousand signatures were registered.
