Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, expressed his dissatisfaction with a statement of his foreign policy assistant, Sergei Prikhodko. On his own and without consulting with the head of state he declared that Moscow was ready to publish a transcript of the CSTO meeting, where the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, promised to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The president of Russia did not support his assistant’s initiative, which may have caused internal struggle within the Russian president’s administration for «the penultimate authority» in the preparation of foreign policy decisions, IA REGNUM-Belarus informs with reference to a competent source in Russian government.

This confrontation involves Sergei Prikhodko on the one side, the head of Russian president’s administration, Sergei Naryshkin, special representative of the president, Mikhail Shvydkoi and head of one of the administration’s departments, Sergei Vinokurov, — on the other. There is also an inter-agency competition between Sergei Prikhodko, deputy head of the government apparatus, Yuri Ushakov, and Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, the source told.

As Telegraf previously reported, on August 4, Dmitry Medvedev stated that the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, in the presence of the heads of several CIS countries had declared his intention to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

In response, Alexander Lukashenko, accused his Russian counterpart in dishonourableness and dishonesty with respect to his declarations on the recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia’s sovereignty. «I would not like to debate the issue, the Russian counterpart just pulls out certain things dishonourably and dishonestly», Belarusian leader said on August 13.

Then Russian president’s assistant, Sergei Prikhodko, stated that the Kremlin was ready to publish a transcript of the CSTO meeting concerning Belarusian president’s willingness to recognize the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
