Polish MEP Marek Migalsky appealed to the European Council with a request to amend the list of Belarusian officials, banned to enter the EU. According to him, "the list contains a number of inaccuracies and obvious factual errors." In particular, the politician notes that most of the officials' names are given in the Russian language transcription, not the Belarusian one.

Belarusian version is presented only by 35 persons. The Belarusian version, not the Russian one, is written in English transcription by the Latin alphabet, in the passports, issued in Belarus,» said the MEP, transfers PAP.

Marek Migalsky also points out to a number of factual errors in the list. Thus, it provides the names of two Attorney Generals, and chairmen of the KGB. What is more the journalist of the newspaper «Sovetskaia Belarus — Belarus Today» Anna Shadrina resigned after the events of December 19. «Functions, performed a few years ago, have still been assigned to many individuals,» underlined by the applicant.

«It follows that the EU Foreign Ministers, the authors of the list, have not checked whether the persons, included in the list in 2006, have still been carrying out their duties. Incorrect transcription of those, included in the list, can backfire. Most people on the list may move freely within the EU and neighboring countries, as their names are different from those in the list. This situation is unacceptable,» said Marek Migalsky, asking not to allow such mistakes in future.

As Telegraf previously reported, a new package of the EU sanctions against the Belarusian officials, including President Alexander Lukashenko, entered into force on February 2. The EU decided to freeze all the assets and economic resources of 157 representatives of the Belarusian authorities. Visa sanctions were applied to 158 officials.

Meanwhile, the EU has included a dead person in the list. Pischulenok Michael, a former chairman of Vitebsk voblast election commission, who’s been placed in third position in the list, died long ago in 2009.
