President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, expressed his doubts in appropriateness of several proposed changes to the rule of the road. Considering a draft decree, the head of state declared that the Ministry of Internal Affairs "went too far" in changing the rule of the road.

«When I received a draft decree to adjust the rule of the road once again, after reading it, I realized that the Interior Ministry or anyone else involved in these changes were not just pulling the blanket over himself, but went too far», Alexander Lukashenko said.

According to the head of state, the issues of road safety directly affect the rights and legitimate interests of almost all the residents of the country. Because of importance of these issues back in 2005 it was decided to approve the rule of the road at the presidential level, BelTA informs.

«Why was it done? Then it was said that the rule of the road was a serious thing, nobody could adjust it neither such a serious department as Interior Ministry nor anyone else. And five years later, I am convinced this decision was correct», Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

«I doubt whether all the proposed changes to the rule of the road are in the public interest? How timely they are, and whether there will be objective difficulties in their application?», the president of Belarus underlined.

The rule of the road should not be changed so often, Lukashenko

The head of stated believes that the rule of the road should not be changed as often as it is proposed. «So, either you do not do your best, do not see what will happen tomorrow — the day after tomorrow, you can not anticipate this and begin to adjust these rules almost every year, or we really have such a rotten situation that we must, for example, limit the speed somewhere in the village at night to 50 kilometers per hour instead of 60 kilometers per hour. As if there is a big difference or it will change something», Alexander Lukashenko said.

Moreover, the president was alerted with the change of wider use of reflective elements. «You know, I begin to be alerted, as if some company is ready to produce these reflective elements today, and we will hang them to each horse’s tail and thus create the prosperity of this company», Belarusian leader said.

Belarusian government struck off above mentioned rules from the latest version of the draft decree in accordance with remarks of the president, Alexander Lukashenko informed. «But I would like to reexamine these issues, weighing the pros and cons», the head of state underlined.
