Aliaksandr Milinkevich, leader of "Za Svabodu" Movement, presidential candidate in the 2006 election, will not participate in the election campaign this year. According to the opposition politician, he has two main reasons to abandon the struggle for the presidency.
The first is that the Belarusian authorities do not intend to make changes to electoral law, as the chairman of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina has stated recently, «Nasha Niva» reports. «I do not want to participate in the play where one director and writer do not want to be a supernumerary,» Aliaksandr Milinkevich said.
In addition, the leader of «Za Svabodu» Movement refused to participate in the elections, because of the lack of unity of the Belarusian opposition.
However, ex-presidential candidate says that he does not intend to stop fully his political activity, and he is going to actively support pro-European bloc of three presidential candidates namely Ales Mikhalevich, Ryhor Kastusyou and Yury Hlushakou. He intends to participate in the pickets, meetings with voters, collecting signatures. Aliaksandr Milinkevich and the block representatives signed the corresponding agreement on September 17.
