Milinkevich to Launch His Election Campaign on May 3

Leader of For Freedom (Za Svabodu) Movement, Alexander Milinkevich, will start his election campaign on May 3. The politician plans to launch it with the church's blessing. At 11:00 there will be church service held in the Temple of Saints Peter and Paul, and at 11:30 in one of Minsk Roman Catholic churches — Red or Cathedral.

Then, in Europe hotel, there will be officially launched the election campaign of Alexander Milinkevich, the UDF website informs. The leader of For Freedom (Za Svabodu) Movement runs for presidency under pro-European slogans. The politician has repeatedly advocated the need for Belarus’ accession to the European Union, as an alternative to the movement to the East priority for current authorities.

In 2006, Alexander Milinkevich already participated in the presidential elections as the single candidate from the democratic forces. According to official results, the politician obtained only 6.1% of votes. The acting head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, was declared as a winner of elections, collecting 83% of votes, according to the CEC.
