Ministry of Economy Proposes to Increase Unemployment Benefit

Deputy Minister of Economy of Belarus, Andrei Tur, at a meeting of National Council of Labour and Social Affairs, reported that the government is now examining the issue of social benefit's increase for unemployed. "This is about increasing unemployment benefits and grants to unemployed, directed to the job training by the state placement service", the representative of Ministry said.

The rate of benefit in the country is about 45 thousand rubles, the deputy minister noted. Regarding the situation on labor market, deputy economy minister described it as «stable, controlled and managed», BelTA informs.

Andrei Tur also noted that «the complication of situation in the country’s economy because of the global financial crisis did not lead to massive layoffs». «Most of the companies’ policy is aimed at retention of human potential», the representative of Ministry said, adding that this year’s arrangements of active employment policy continue.

As in the last year, there will be operational monitoring of the situation on labor market and forced part-time employment in manufacturing, Andrei Tur said. The deputy head of Ministry of Economy also reminded that in 2009, «we managed to keep unemployment in socially permissible limits».

«At the beginning of this year, the unemployment rate was 0.9% of economically active population. There was a growth of employment in economy. This figure was 4.62 million people at the forecast of 4.58-4.65 million people for 2009», the deputy minister summed up.
