Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus called on citizens to refrain from trips to Libya in connection with the developments there. This was stated by the Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Savinykh on February 21. "The Belarusian Foreign Ministry recommends citizens of the Republic of Belarus to refrain from traveling to Libya in connection with the rapidly deteriorating situation in the country," he said.

«We hope for a speedy end to the violence, as well as for the restoration of peace and order in this friendly country,» said Andrei Savinykh.

According to Telegraf, mass protests, demanding the resignation of Muammar Qaddafi, who’s been in charge of the country for 42 years, have been continuing in Libya since February 15. During the clashes of protesters with the police and the army, according to the human rights defenders, above 230 people have been killed. The authorities have stated about 84 deaths. Gaddafi’s son Saif al-Islam said that the separatist opposition movement was «threatening the unity of the country.»
