Political parties and public associations in Belarus are under active consideration of the Ministry of Justice. Parties and associations may be denied registration if senior officials make decisions about participating in unauthorized rallies and riots, the Minister Viktor Golovanov said on December 20.

However, according to the head of the Ministry of Justice, at the moment, authorities have no information about any of the parties and groups, making such decisions. «But we’ll be informed by law enforcement agencies about the detainees and perpetrators’ actions. Whether it would be a disorderly conduct, or participation in riots, which is qualified as a felony,» the Minister explained.

The head of the Ministry of Justice said that Prosecutor General of Belarus would give a legal assessment of riots at Independence Square in Minsk on December 19, as it is within its competence, RIA Novosti.

Viktor Golovanov said that the Ministry of Justice had earlier appealed to the leaders of public associations, trade unions, political parties and foundations not to participate in unsanctioned events. «If someone is not satisfied with the outcome of the elections, there is the law and the Electoral Code, there is a civilized way to deal with these cases in the courts. But there are people who have decided to follow another way,» Minister of Justice said.
