The agreement was concluded between Minsk authorities and more than 20 business entities of the city.

The mayor says the agreement is valid for 1.5-2 months, until the situation stabilizes in the consumer market.

Minsk Authorities to Reconsider their Plans for Demolition of Private Houses

Nikolai Ladutko also told MPs that the Minsk city executive committee would review plans for the areas of private residential buildings, previously scheduled for demolition. Owners of the houses not to be demolished within 10 years will be allowed renovating real estate.

According to the mayor, city authorities decided to change approaches to the demolition of private buildings, having come to the conclusion that it’s too costly and uneconomical in some cases. Therefore, Minsk city executive committee will review plans for prospective development next week.

Nikolai Ladutko assured MPs that «the greater part of the individual buildings will remain the same within the next 10 years.» Moreover, having identified homes to be demolished within 10 years, the municipality will allow their owners to carry out their construction and reconstruction. At present residents of the so-called red zone of the capital are prohibited to do so.

However, Nikolai Ladutko stresses that the city does not intend to waive the demolition of private houses in general. The decision on the demolition of individual buildings will be taken where it is necessary to build roads, subway construction, transport interchanges and other socially significant constructions, he said.
