The rates of customs duties on imported cars for individuals in Belarus can be maintained at current level with the right to sell cars every three years. While selling earlier than in three years it's necessary to pay duties at a rate for legal entities. Such a proposal is now being discussed by member-countries of the Customs Union (Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan).

The proposal is being prepared to considerate it on May 21 at the level of heads of governments at a meeting of the EurAsEC Interstate Council, the supreme authority of the Customs Union. It was reported by a representative of expert group one of the member-countries of the negotiations in his interview to PRIME-TASS.

«Recently, representatives of Belarusian customs authorities have repeatedly and publicly spoken in favor of maintaining the current rates’ size on cars for individuals, arguing that citizens will be able to get the desired car, and the economy will receive additional funding streams from customs duties, sales of gasoline, service stations. However, Belarusian side is doing a step towards the Russian Federation, offering to allow vehicle sales by individual not earlier than in three years», the representative of expert group commented on proposals.

For the date, there are only individuals who may import a car with the payment of lower rates of customs duties once in a year. As previously stated deputy chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, Leonid Dosov, «the issue on car import duties for individuals should be finally resolved until July 1, 2010, however, the SCC of Belarus plans to settle it already in May, according to the intensity of the ongoing negotiations».
