Minsk should become one of the best contemporary world's centers. It was stated on June 29 by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting with Minsk's activists. "In recent years, Minsk has changed radically and become one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. A significant contribution to the development of the capital was introduced by Mikhail Pavlov, leaving a good mark in the annals of glorious deeds", Belarusian leader said.
«Today, we should move forward, even faster, to turn Minsk into one of the world’s best centers, both in terms of people’s living and other key indicators. To reach that is a challenge, not every leader can do. Therefore, I have watched Nikolai Alexandrovich Ladutko for a long time», BelTA quotes the president.
The head of state underlined that Nikolai Ladutko (new mayor of Minsk, before that he was acting chairman of Minsk City Executive Committee — Telegraf) significantly «improved his work, got some experience, developed himself as administrator, in a crisis period for economy he managed to keep the situation in the city, did not allow significant disruption and failures in industry».
One of the factors in favor of new mayor’s candidacy was the fact that Nikolai Ladutko is Minsk dweller, Alexander Lukashenko stressed. According to the president, the head of Minsk is supposed to be a man who was born here and knows the city, takes care of it, thinks the way all Minsk residents do.
Lukashenko demanded to speed up a solution of underflooding problem in the capital
Moreover, at a meeting with Minsk’s activists, Alexander Lukashenko drew attention to the need to expedite the solution of underflooding problem in certain areas of the city. «It is not good, that lately every heavy rain has become a natural disaster for us», the president stressed.
Belarusian leader also noted that increasing people’s displeasure was caused by transportation system. «Traffic jams, overloaded buses, trolley buses and trams, mess with the parking of transport, lack of parking areas and garages — all this requires the highest attention of local authorities and optimal solutions of problems», Alexander Lukashenko said, adding that «they affect directly as living conditions of people so and the capital’s look».
