Representatives of Belarus, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Denmark, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, New Zealand and Singapore will report to the UN on compliance with legislative and administrative measures, aimed at protecting children. This was reported on the website of the United Nations.

Representatives of these countries will deliver a report on compliance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child at the session of the UN Committee in Geneva from January 17 to February 4.

UN Committee on the Rights of the Child consists of 18 experts. It was created to monitor compliance with the requirements of the international Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1989 and came into force in 1990. Its members regularly report to the Committee on the implementation of the requirements of this international legal instrument, Korrespondent.net.

There were adopted two optional protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 2000 — on the participation of children in armed conflicts and trafficking of children, child prostitution and child pornography. The Committee is entrusted to monitor the implementation of these new international legal instruments.

Belarus and Mexico will also report to the Committee on their actions to achieve the implementation of the two optional protocols at the present session.
