"Naftan" Accident Resulted in Seven Injured

A portion of hydrogen sulfide was spewed at Novopolotsk refinery "Naftan" at night on December 24-25, as a result seven workers were hospitalized. Press Secretary of the Emergencies Ministry of Belarus Vitali Novitski confirmed the information on the release of toxic substances and assessed the state of victims as satisfactory.

Details of the accident are unknown yet, but Emergencies Ministry spokesman said that emergency department hadn’t been involved in the elimination of the accident’s aftermath, «Belarusian partisans» report. «Naftan» employees, wished to remain anonymous, reported, in turn, that the emission of hydrogen sulphide had occurred at the enterprise’s premises, producing additives for lubricants.

The official «Naftan» website, as well as the official reports of the Emergencies Ministry, give no information about the emergency.

«I can not comment on the situation, occurred at Novopolotsk refinery, because the MES was not involved. The only thing I know is that all people feel quite satisfactory. And all of them were sent home from hospital at 10:50 am today,» Vitali Novitski explained the situation to Ale.by.

As reported by the administration of Novopolotsk Municipal Hospital, none of the victims need intensive care: they all were sent home, having stayed in hospital not more than 12 hours.
