Chairman of the National Bank of Belarus Petr Prokopovich announced on March 17 that the previously introduced restrictions on the purchase of foreign currency by importers might be lifted. Nevertheless, Petr Prokopovich assured that even after their cancellation Belarusian businessmen wouldn't work as they used to.

To date, more than seven thousand equipment importing structures have been active in Minsk. Petr Prokopovich noted that all businesses, small and medium, should be export-oriented. According to the head of the National Bank, those enterprises, willing to deal with import only, have no prospects in Belarus, BelTA informs.

«Entrepreneurs have to partially sell export orientated commodity before dealing with import. Today, businessmen have huge responsibility. The State has established all necessary facilities for their activity, and now those hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises, registered in Belarus today, must pay back. Employers must restructure their work towards the effective organization of production, but simple buy-and-sell is a road to nowhere,» said Petr Prokopovich.

As Telegraf previously reported, according to a joint decision of the Council of Ministers of Belarus and the National Bank of February 25, 2011, purchase of foreign currency by business entities — residents of Belarus to make payments to non-residents for imports of equipment can only be done by foreign trade agreements, which sum does not exceed €50 thousand in the equivalent.
