The National Bank of Belarus on December 29, 2010 will bring new banknotes of Br50 and Br50 thousand into circulation. This is done to bring the inscriptions on the banknotes of 2000 in line with the new Rules of Belarusian spelling and punctuation. Image of front and back sides, colors and size of the new banknotes remained the same.

As it became known to Telegraf in the National Bank, the modified banknotes of Br50 have the following differences: no security thread, the spelling of the word «PYATSDZESYAT» is changed into «PYATSDZYASYAT.»

The bill’s denomination of Br50 thousand, instead of a transparent polymer thread with text «NBRB,» contains 2 millimeters metallized «security thread of a «dive» type with sites out onto the paper’s surface in the form of bright rectangles, forming the dotted line,» which looks like a solid dark line when to examine for transparency. In addition, it has the changed spelling of the word «PYATSDZESYAT.»

«The modified banknotes, put into circulation, are legal tender of the Republic of Belarus, which must be accepted at nominal value for all types of payments without any restrictions. Banknotes of the National Bank of 2000 with the nominal value of Br50 and Br50 thousand, along with the modified bills, remain in circulation in the territory of the Republic of Belarus,» the National Bank told.

According to Telegraf, the unregistered youth organization «Young Front» (Czech Republic) appealed to the leadership of the National Bank of Belarus on October 26, demanding to bring the numerals in the national currency units into line with modern linguistic rules.
