The National Bank of Belarus denied rumors about Petr Prokopovich's resignation. "Petr Petrovich has been "getting go-by" since February, in my opinion. So this information is common rumors," said a spokesman for the National Bank, Anatoli Drozdov, to Telegraf correspondent.
The fact that Petr Prokopovich as chairman of the National Bank is about to be taken over by Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Rumas was told by Belarusian writer Alexander Feduta in his blog.
«Rumors say that the place of the Hero of Belarus PPProkopovich is allegedly kept for still not a hero, Vice-Premier Rumas. And the latter is still allegedly refusing. Therefore PPP is either working, or hiding under excuse of poor health. I wonder how long all this could continue? Until they’ll reach up dirt on Rumas and drive him by force into «National Bank»?» said Alexander Feduta.
According to Telegraf, Petr Prokopovich, head of the National Bank since 1998, has recently had a major heart surgery. Now, however, his health has improved and he will again go back to work.
