President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the preparation of the new edition of the National Security Concept of Belarus was not associated with the current political situation. Head of State explained that work on a new version began in December 2009, and the "relevant scientific research have been conducted over the past three years."

According to Alexander Lukashenko, the new version of the concept should not only maintain the continuity with the previous one, but also take into account changes both in the world and the country over the past years, BelTA informs.

«This document is also intended to be not merely conceptual, as follows from its name, but also the methodological basis for subsequent decisions and actions of all state bodies,» the head of state said. In addition, according to the president, the «practical, applied focus» of a new concept is important.

«We need to assess the current state of national security, without which there is no development or prosperity, to determine the direction we should move further,» Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

According to the President, the concept should identify ways of protecting the interests of the country, the algorithm of the whole system of national security work with any threats, and the place and role of the president, government and every citizen in society.

However, Alexander Lukashenko stressed that one should not forget about the political significance of the concept. «It should show transparency and predictability of our policy to the international community, as well as the reliability of Belarus as a responsible partner and the donor of the security,» the president said.
