Neither Kremlin Nor West to Affect Elections in Belarus, Lukashenko

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that neither Russia nor the Western countries could hinder the electorial process in the country. "There'll be no external influence on the situation in Belarus: either from Russia or the West and America. I'll do my best for elections to be carried out peacefully and the people to decide the fate of the country tomorrow," the Belarusian leader stressed.

The Belarusian head of state assured that the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus on December 19 «will be carried out transparently and openly,» ITAR-TASS. «My job as president, despite my name on the ballot, is to ensure absolute transparency and honesty of the elections,» Alexander Lukashenko declared, speaking to the media at the republican festival-fair «Dazhynki-2010» in Lida.

«Keys to the elections in Belarus are now in your pocket. You own them, not even me, — the president of Belarus turned to the reporters. — Keys today not in the Kremlin, but in Minsk, Hrodno, Lida, in small villages, in the pockets of our veterans, pensioners, students, youth, military people. That’s where those keys are.»

As Telegraf reported, at 19.00, September 24 the Belarusian CEC finished reception of documents for registration of action groups to nominate potential candidates for the presidency. 19 applications were totally recieved, including the one withdrawn by the nurse Natalia Starikova from Homel region and «bid-protest» of Kolodishchi resident Ilya Dobrotvor. CEC intends to take the decision on action groups’ registration at a meeting on September 27.
