Belarus does not plan to engage in economic war with Russia, stated on June 28 the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting on the most pressing issues of diversification of Belarus' foreign economic activity and cooperation with Venezuela, Russia and Ukraine.

«No one should bear in mind that we should start some kind of economic war with Russia. This is our ancient partner. We speak one language, we have one mentality, we are one nation», BelTA quotes Alexander Lukashenko.

«Therefore, no war will be», the head of state declared. «These are our traditional markets, we are purchasing and will purchase energy from there. Nobody will 100% replace Russia in this respect».

The president of Belarus also pointed out that «if today Russian leadership took this position, so, perhaps, they have reasons, and we criticize them for that, but we must understand their position — as well as they should understand our position when we will look for an alternative to natural gas and oil — the issues, on which they are trying to bend us».

The head of state added that Belarus should increase the volume of energy supplies by other routes. «We should go this way, also elaborating matters to supply here (in Belarus) cheap natural gas and other energy resources. Therefore, to raise the issue to spite Russia, against Russia will be foolish, stupid and will not be understood and accepted by our society in general», Alexander Lukashenko stated.
