Belarus will not insist on the recognition of the presidential elections by Russia. It was stated by the Head of State Alexander Lukashenko in an interview with German largest media. "It's up to Russia — to recognize or not. That's the right of Russia, its sovereign right. We will treat this carefully," the president said.

«According to our laws, we do not need any recognition. You haven’t acknowledged at all the existence of Belarus for a dozen and a half years, let along the elections. Well, did we die from this?» the president said.

At the same time Alexander Lukashenko believes that Belarus and Russia can come to an agreement. «There’s nowhere for us to get away from this, because we are actually common peoples, we are the closest peoples — Belarusian and Russian, with almost no differences,» President of Belarus said.

However, according to the Belarusian leader, there is an important condition — the recognition of the «state on the Belarusian land with its people, a sovereign and independent state with its own interests.» «We have to be considered with either by Germany or Russia. All the rest is up to you,» Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

Relations with Russia Not to be Affected by Russian Presidential Elections’ Outcome, Lukashenko

However, the president of Belarus is convinced that the development of Belarusian-Russian relations will not be affected by the future Russia’s president in 2012. «This is a nuance. It is not essential. I think no matter how far the presidents of Russia and Belarus, as well as their prime-ministers, like or dislike one another, there is something more important in its objective reality, lying beyond the subjective understanding,» the Belarusian leader said.

With respect to presidential elections in Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko noted that Belarus is now trying too hard to convince the world in the elections honesty. «I sometimes catch myself thinking that my colleagues and I are trying too much to convince you that our elections were fair and will be fair as well. We are trying to convince all of you that our elections will be held in accordance with law. Is there anything you don’t like in our elections today? «Tell me, where we’ve violated the Constitution and our laws?» If there are no such violations, then be kind enough to agree with us,» the head of state said.

«If you want to see that white is black, then no matter how convincing I could be, you will refer either to the terminology, or to anything else, but you’ll see it in black. And I will never make you think the other way round,» Alexander Lukashenko said.

However, the Belarusian president said that, being a potential candidate in the election, he does not need high-profile pre-election statements. «I don’t need it. Opposition needs it. Let it say something to make people gasp and refuse to vote for Lukashenko but vote for some so-called oppositionist,» the president said.

Strength of my Policy is in Keeping Promises, Lukashenko

«Forgive my indiscretion, but the strength of my policy lies in the fact that if Lukashenko has promised anything, he will do it by al means, no matter what the costs are. And the people know that. And appreciate. Should I make such high statements in this situation?» Alexander Lukashenko said.

According to the Belarusian leader, the election for the incumbent president is not just two or six months before the election, but his entire term in office, BelTA informs.

«The President of Belarus — is a heavy daily work. It’s a hard work to solve the problems within and outside the country. And I think I’ve managed to convince our people, and people saw how hard the work is, judging by the power system and my work, which I together with my colleagues had invested in the development of our country; people saw a definite result,» the head of state said.

«And if I’ve convinced my people over these years that I’m worth something and can give something else to the society, then people will vote for me. If not, then, of course, there are chances for other politicians, including the so- called opposition,» the Belarusian leader added.

Belarusian Political System is Based on Our Own Realities, Lukashenko

In addition, Alexander Lukashenko noted that the political and economic system of Belarus should be established on the basis of its own realities of life. «Why should we always be like you?» I do not know. We have our traditions, we have our own mentality, we have our own people and we have our own interests. And we will build our life and create our system, including control, power, and others on the basis of these arguments. No matter how it will sound. Everything must flow from the specifics of those realities, the state and the society are engaged in,» the President said.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, political system, operating now in Belarus, has been created «not to please someone,» but «to save its country and its people after the collapse of the Soviet Union.»

«And the problems, we’ve tried to address by creating this system, including the power issue, we’ve solved. And our system’s evolving, it’s developing. Maybe not as fast as the Germans want, but we are growing at a pace that allows us to develop our society and our economy,» President of Belarus said.
