There is no need to devalue the national currency in Belarus. This was stated by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on December 17. The president added that Belarus had enough gold and foreign currency reserves, about $6-7 billion to meet any demand for the currency.

«It might be as old as hills, — Alexander Lukashenko said. — A wise man, who had some doubts and tension, has now changed his mind absolutely due to the fact that, firstly, we have met the requirement of some people to exchange our currency for the foreign one in banks: we’ve absolutely satisfied all of them — come and change. However, we must pay tribute to those, who changed money, as their currency was taken to the same banks. It makes no difference to the government, in principle. It was a complete nonsense. But I’ve warned people — it’s their right.»

«Once people saw that the state was able to meet demand in the foreign exchange market, the wave began to decline, — President stated. — Secondly, smart people noticed our agreements in Moscow, followed by a wave of demand for foreign currency dying out. People understand that if there are shifts in economy, pricing — so the foreign exchange market will also improve.»

At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko said that he was under impression after a visit to a central repository of the National Bank. «It is impressive what I see here. It proves that we have sufficient reserves to manage the foreign exchange market in our country. Therefore, it’s their business to cry. You know who’ve created such a stir — the people, guided by the principle of the worse for everybody, the better for them. A very short period of time showed the true value of these statements,» President of Belarus said, BelTA informs.

«I can reiterate what I said in summer and at «Dazhynkah»: our fate is in our hands. We’ll live normally without any panic, any problems. We have everything to solve problems in the country,» Head of State said.
At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko said, addressing reporters: «What you have seen is only a third of the gold reserves, stored here. Two-thirds of storage is in other places. The same can be said about the currency.»

«Therefore we must live absolutely calm and direct themselves to the better future. It seems to me we have a good prospect,» the President concluded.
