No New Year's "Gas War" with Belarus to Be, Surikov

Russian Ambassador to Belarus, Alexander Surikov, suggested that neighboring states would be able to avoid new "gas war" on the threshold of 2011. As Telegraf previously reported, in June 2010, there flared up gas dispute between Moscow and Minsk. Gazprom limited gas supplies, saying that Belarus owed about $190 million. Belarus asked for two weeks to pay, but gas holding demanded immediate payment. In the morning of June 24, Gazprom said that Belarus had paid arrears and gas supplies were resumed in full.
