A former chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus, Stanislav Shushkevich, commented on the statement of the head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, that Minsk did not participate in nuclear summit, taken place in Washington, due to Belarus' refuse to sell its highly enriched uranium to leading nuclear countries. "I am surprised by this statement, because Belarus does not have highly enriched weapons-grade uranium", the politician said.

According to the chairman of BSDH, all highly enriched uranium was contained in nuclear weapons, which Belarus resigned from. «After that, weapons-grade uranium could not appear here. In our country, there are no technologies necessary for its enrichment», Tomorrow of your country quotes the words of Stanislau Shushkevich.

«Several years ago, Belarusian mass media reported on experiments with uranium, which were conducted at a research reactor near Sosny village, near Minsk. But this uranium can be used only for scientific purposes», the politician stressed.

Stanislau Shushkevich noted that such uranium is not sufficiently enriched to be used in nuclear weapons.
