Head of Nuclear Energy Department of Energy Ministry Nikolai Hrusha reported on April 22 that the electricity cost will be reduced by approximately 20% after the NPP launch. As the expert explained, the scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus didn't take into account the gas price rise.

Nikolai Hrusha has also assured that the nuclear power plant construction will not interfere with other projects in the energy sector under the approved programs, currently being implemented. According to the official, the projects of reconstruction and modernization of energy facilities, including the use of credit resources of the Chinese investors, will be implemented as scheduled, BelTA informs.

As Telegraf previously reported, the Belarusian authorities have decided to build the first nuclear power plant in Astravets in Hrodno voblast. Construction is scheduled for September 2011. The first power unit of up to 2.4 thousand megawatts is planned to start in 2017, the second — in 2018.

Nikolai Hrusha has assured that the reactor system for nuclear plant is modern equipment with «good potential for safety and reliability.» According to him, that’s enough to have no accidents at a power plant, such as the Japanese Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant.
