A former chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus, Stanislau Shushkevich, called as "public demonstration of uncouth ignorance" the statement of Alexander Lukashenko on availability of highly enriched uranium in the country. "If Belarus had not removed the nuclear weapons at the time, it would have become Lukashenko's means for blackmail", the politician thinks.

Stanislau Shushkevich also does not believe that the withdrawal of nuclear weapons from Belarus on the conditions of «nationalists», according to the President, was «the most severe mistake», the website of Tell the Truth! campaign reports.

«In terms of the basics of nuclear physics, Lukashenko’s speech to the journalists is nonsense», doctor of physical and mathematical sciences said. «He does not tell radioactive waste from conventional uranium, enriched uranium, weapons-grade uranium. He does know absolutely nothing about this issue, and starts to abuse everything and everybody».

According to the chairman of BSDH, the Head of state has «a deep mortification that he was not invited to Washington for a summit on nuclear security». «Lukashenko wants to demonstrate that he understands this issue. And demonstrates, I say once again, uncouth ignorance», Stanislau Shushkevich stated.
