Belarus's internal affairs authorities recorded 142 facts of theft from the budget totaling $5.6 billion ($1.86 million at the rate of the National Bank on May 1) in January-April. This was reported in the management of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Therefore, special board, dealing with the prevention and detection of crimes in the given field, has been working in the Office since May 31.
Prosecutor’s Office of Minsk identified 598 corruption-related crimes in 2010. This is 17.3% more than in 2010, said Senior Assistant Attorney of Minsk Sergei Balashov. He notes that «there have been revealed more thefts of property through abuse of office power, forgery and bribery, reports ALE.BY.
Corruption Only Growing in Ministry of Trade
Attorney General’s Office organized checking of Ministry of Trade in May for compliance with laws on fighting corruption. The results showed that the agency should take immediate measures to prevent corruption.
Thus, the number of corruption crimes is only increasing each year in the structure of the Belarusian State Association of consumer services organizations (Belbyt) at the Ministry of Trade. No measures are taken here to prevent them.
In organizations, administered by the Ministry of Trade, 13 crimes of corruption were recorded in 2009-2011, while in «Belbyt» organizations — more than 30.
The most common crimes are forgery and embezzlement by misuse of official powers.
