Belarus parliament is working on a bill on appeals of citizens and legal entities. Innovations include a clause that replies to official written requests must be given in a language of the request. Thus, officials will be obliged to respond to Belarusian-written requests in Belarusian under the law.

«There are two official languages in our country, and we came to the conclusion and will take this view — to respond in the same language. If it’s written in Belarusian language, then a reply must be given in Belarusian, if in Russian — then in Russian», the member of the Standing Committee for Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media, Yevgeny Melnikov, reported.

Core committee is preparing a document for the first reading at present. The bill also contains several clauses on official e-mail appeals, Zviazda informs.

It is planned that an official request may be sent by email to official websites of organizations now. Organizations may answer such requests «at the discretion of the top-official» via both electronic and regular mail.
