As of 13:00 on May 11, only five commercial banks in Belarus: Priorbank, Onerbank and International Reserve Bank — have preserved old exchange rates. All other banks exchange dollars at the rate of Br3900-4000. The new euro rate ranges within Br5622-5800, the Russian ruble — Br140-150.

As Telegraf previously reported, the National Bank commented on the decision on new rules for the foreign currency sale in the cash market. «Even if the banks establish the rate of Br4 thousand per dollar, then people will think if they need currency at such a rate,» said the NBB representative.

May 11, National Bank lifted recommendation restrictions on the banks’ establishment of exchange rate in transactions with the public for buying and selling foreign currency, set at a rate of + / -2% of the official rate.

Meanwhile, experts believe that the actual devaluation of the Belarusian ruble of May 11 will not lead to the emergence of currency in the exchange offices of the Belarusian banks.
