Belarus will be represented only by opposition representatives in the parliamentary dimension of the Eastern Partnership, Euronest. This decision was taken on March 10, during the special session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
«We have confirmed that was announced earlier: ten observers — representatives of civil society and democratic opposition will be invited to Euronest. We have adopted a list of these ten people, «- said the MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, reports Radio Racyja.
Belarus will be represented in Euronest by the chairman of the Belarusian Social-Democratic Hramada Stanislav Shushkevich, representative of the Belarusian intellectuals Council, Alexander Kozulin, leader of the Belarusian United Left Party “Spravedlivij mir” (“Fair World”) Sergei Kalyakin, leader of the movement “Za Svabodu” («The Movement for Freedom» ) Alexander Milinkevich, the chairman of the BNF (BPF) Alexei Yanukevich, leader of the United Civil Party of Belarus Anatoly Lebedko, leader of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions Alexei Yaroshuk, representative of the Public Association “Ecodom” («Eco-house») Irina Koporiha, chairman of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Janna Litvina and chairman of the unrecognized Union of Poles in Belarus Anzelika Borys.
As Telegraf previously reported, originally, there was expected that five representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus and five members of the opposition should participate in the meetings of Euronest. Official Minsk insisted that all ten seats for Belarus should be occupied by representatives of the state.
The same position was taken by the parliaments of other member countries of the Eastern Partnership: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. March 4, 2010, they appealed to the European Parliament with special statement. Nevertheless, March 2, MEP Justas Paleckis – the member of European parliament’s delegation to Minsk – said that «the miracle didn’t happen. All inclined to think that all ten seats in Euroneste would be given to the opposition. «
The first meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Eastern Partnership Euvronest scheduled for March 24.
