Minsk authorities have declined the request of United Civil Party to hold a picket in front of Belteleradiocompany building on Makaenka street. It was reported on May 4 by the chairman of Minsk city organization of UCP, Anatoly Pavlov, who applied for a picket.

According to the oppositionist, in its response to the Party Minsk city executive committee argued its decision by Belarusian law, which states that «the holding of mass events at a distance of less than 200 meters from the building of teleradiocompany is prohibited», UCP website reports.

However, the politician reminded that the authorities allowed a group of veterans to picket Narodnaya Volya newspaper building, and «they were allowed to gather in Alexandrovsky garden just a stone’s throw from the presidential administration, to stay with posters in front of Narodnaya Volya windows and show their dissatisfaction with that Narodnaya Volya has allegedly published not satisfying materials».

«At the same time, Belarusian TV constantly distorts the information about our Party and especially about its leaders. If somebody is show on TV screen, than, in fact, the speaker words are replaced by inserted comments of some people who do not even name themselves and radically distort what was actually said. Our recent congress has been shown in a similar manner», Anatoly Pavlov said.

«We’re refused. In addition, the officials refer to the law. It turns out that there is one law for the veterans, and the other — for the legal opposition Party», the opposition activist underlined.
