Opposition should come to meet with the Special Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Belarus with a single message. The statement was made by the Chairman of the United Civil Party, Anatoly Lebedko. According to opposition politician, such message should become a demand to hold free and fair presidential elections.

«In September, there will take place a regular PACE session, where Belarusian issue to be raised in a particular format — either within the Committee, or in the course of the session. Today, we send our proposal to come to tomorrow’s meeting with a single message around all opposition representatives. Its essence is the following: only democratic free elections should open the door to the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe», Belarus Partisan quotes the UCP leader.

As Telegraf already reported, PACE Special Rapporteur on Belarus, Sinikka Hurskainen, arrived in Minsk for official visit, which will last until August 25. Sinikka Hurskainen reported that during this visit she would like to know more about the steps Belarus had made for the resumption of closer cooperation with the PACE (it is about the death penalty cancellation, in particular).
