Orthodox Culture Course to Be Introduced in Belarusian Schools from September 1

Next academic year, in Belarusian schools from the 1st to 11th grade there will be introduced extracurricular classes of "Basic Orthodox Culture. Orthodox shrines of the Eastern Slavs". It was reported by a member of the Coordinating Council of Belarus' Ministry of Education and the Belarusian Orthodox Church on cooperation issues, Vladimir Grozov.

The program has passed all necessary approvals, including the National Institute of Education and the Ministry of Education, sobor.by website informs. «Right now, the Belarusian Orthodox Church and the Ministry of Education of the country make all efforts to work out an educational and methodical complex to the program of new school optional class», said Vladimir Grozov, who is also the chairman of the Republican association «Parents and teachers for the rebirth of Orthodox education».

According to the chairman of a public association, the new course let those who wish become familiar with the basics of the spiritual culture of Orthodoxy. Such program of religious education, covering the entire period of schooling, is introduced in Belarus for the first time. The classes are optional, that is, of pupils’ wish.
